Rather it be reaching out to a sponsor I like to see if they will sponsor me, or trying a scary skateboarding trick down some stairs, or taking a risk to DJ different events that are outside of the normal to understand that not every party or event is the same and that you have to be prepared no matter the circumstance and be willing to take a risk on what songs you think will work for them. When I’ve taken a risk or multiple risks to do something for my career, it has helped tremendously. You have to take risks to be able to jump outside of your comfort zone to reach the next level. What I think about risk is that if your not willing to take one, then you will be in the same spot over and over. I’m known for my skateboarding tricks and how I do them, and my Afro that I used to have before I got dreadlocks. ![]() We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. Not having a father around, moving every few years, finding new friends, losing myself, lots of broken bones, trying to understand where I fit in. Racism, fear, doubt, messing up in school. No, it hasn’t definitely been tough since I was a kid dealing with drama, trauma, and crazy people. Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome? I’ve had a lot of skateboarding products with my name in it, Boards, Wheels, Insoles, shoes, trucks, tech decks, clothes. I also produce music and been doing that for a few years. I’ve been DJing for 6-7 years and have traveled a lot if the world with skateboarding and DJing. I’ve been featured in a couple of magazines as Thrasher, TheSkateboardMag, Transworld and had the cover of TheSkateboardMag a few years ago. I DJ for a rapper named Hopsin and I am my own artist and I go by ROMAR or DJ ROMAR. Started skateboarding when I was 13 been skateboarding for about 17 years and been pro for about eight years.
